Early yesterday morning, a suspected drunk driver collided with a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) patrol car on Interstate 70, as reported by the department. According to Fox2Now, the incident occurred near the Broadway exit around 1 a.m., and the SLMPD officer had just re-entered the patrol vehicle when the crash transpired, he was taken promptly to the hospital for evaluation, and fortunately avoided serious injuries, later he was released.
Following the crash, a 41-year-old male suspect was apprehended by police and is facing possible charges for DUI, driving while his license was revoked, and related bench warrants. "Thankfully, our officer was not seriously injured," the SLMPD said in a post obtained by KFVS12, indicating the officer's fortunate escape from more severe harm in the collision.
SLMPD made a public plea in a post urging citizens to refrain from drinking and driving, highlighting the risks involved. "We cannot stress enough—please do not drink and drive," said SLMPD in the post mentioned by First Alert 4, stressing, "You risk everything when you drive drunk.” There were no additional injuries or vehicles involved in the unfortunate event that occurred.
