The city of New Orleans is on alert following a series of armed robberies that took place in the French Quarter and Marigny neighborhoods. WGNO reports that the New Orleans Police Department is currently investigating the incidents which all occurred yesterday evening.

According to WGNO, the first robbery occurred at approximately 7:23 p.m. in the 700 block of Governor Nicholls Street. An armed individual confronted a man and a woman, forcibly demanding their money and jewelry. Shortly after, at 7:44 p.m., another robbery took place near the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and Royal Street. In this incident, a male victim was held at gunpoint and ordered to hand over his money, before the suspect fled.

Moving on to Frenchmen Street, two additional armed robberies were reported by the WDSU, with one man having his chain snatched and subsequently fighting with the perpetrator over his watch at 10:03 p.m. Another incident occurred in the same block at 10:40 p.m., where a group of four people were robbed.

The NOPD has expressed a strong suspicion that these incidents are connected. As stated in a WWLTV article, eight people were victimized in a total of four separate occurrences. The police are intensifying their efforts to identify and apprehend the suspect or suspects involved in these brazen acts of violence and theft.

Community members with information that could lead to a break in the case are encouraged to contact the authorities. As these investigations continue, residents and visitors of the New Orleans French Quarter and Marigny areas are being urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
