The City of Tacoma is hosting a workshop titled "Doing Business with the City of Tacoma" on November 21 to support minority and socially disadvantaged business owners. The workshop aims to help level the playing field for underrepresented entrepreneurs and is part of the city's efforts to address historic disparities faced by minority, women, and economically disadvantaged individuals in the business community, according to the City of Tacoma.
The workshop will cover the City’s Equity in Contracting, Local Employment, and Apprenticeship Training programs. Staff will guide attendees through the City’s bidding, contracting, and procurement process. The event, starting at 9 AM, will be available in both in-person and virtual formats, as reported by the City of Tacoma.
The workshop, listed on makeittacoma.com/events, will cover key topics for business owners, including how to subscribe to the "Contracting Opportunities" page, find solicitations, and get on the "Bid Holders List." It will also address business licensing in Tacoma, including the costs of licensing, insurance, bonding, and taxes. After the presentation, there will be a Q&A session with city staff to answer any questions about navigating these processes, as stated by the City of Tacoma.
