A 14-year-old suspect, Curon Claybrooks, was apprehended Monday night following a reported carjacking in the North Nashville area. The incident unfolded around 6:40 p.m. on the 1600 block of 7th Avenue North after a blue 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor was taken at gunpoint, according to a press release from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

The vehicle owner employed the use of his cellphone and the Ford tracking app to locate the stolen vehicle, which facilitated the police efforts in tracking down the car. The MNPD's helicopter crew and spike strips played a pivotal role in stopping the stolen truck on Whites Creek Pike, right before two individuals dashed into a nearby wooded area. While the second suspect, described as Claybrooks’ passenger, was found to be uninvolved in the carjacking and was released to a parent, the coordination of the MNPD led to swift action and the apprehension of Claybrooks. Canine Officer Austin Bass and his partner, Otto, were credited with locating Claybrooks, leading to his arrest.

According to the police statement, the second young man, allegedly accompanying Claybrooks, was not believed to have partaken in the carjacking itself. He has since been reunited with his family. Further details regarding the motive or circumstances leading up to the carjacking are yet to be disclosed. Claybrooks is currently in custody, with the case ongoing, and further developments are anticipated, according to the same press release.
