Two teenagers, including a 14-year-old, are in custody following a car theft attempt that escalated into a shooting and a subsequent car crash in Shelby County, as per the Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO). The episodes unfolded on Friday, when deputies were called to a scene involving attempted auto theft and gunfire, with the action culminating in a vehicular crash.

After the crash, on Raleigh-Millington Road south of Pleasant Ridge, the pair of teenage suspects were hospitalized for non-critical injuries. Depicting the outcome of rapid and reckless actions, during their attempted escape, the teens lost control of the vehicle. A third suspect managed to evade arrest and remains at large, according to Action News 5.

The chain of events was triggered when the suspects attempted to burglarize a motor vehicle in front of a residence on the 5800 block of Chadwell Road. "As the victim exited his house, the suspects ran to their vehicle and fled the scene while allegedly firing shots at the victim," as reported by WREG. Neither the victim nor his property was harmed during the shooting.

Detectives from the SCSO were quick to respond to the incident, with specialists from BRATS (Burglary, Robbery, & Auto Theft) also involved. Shortly before the incident, the vehicle used by the suspects had been reported stolen in the same neighborhood. The 14-year-old suspect faces charges including evading arrest in an automobile, burglary of a motor vehicle, and theft of property valued between $10,000 and $60,000, as noted by FOX13 Memphis.
