Dr. Smith's extensive background in public policy and leadership is set to inform the Commission’s operation, previously having held the fort as the Interim Executive Director of THEC, where he played a key role in nurturing the agency's trajectory during a crucial juncture, "Dr. Smith’s leadership and vision will be invaluable as we continue to support Tennessee’s colleges and universities," Dr. Steven Gentile, Executive Director of THEC is quoted as saying in affirmation of the appointment, his deep trust in Smith's abilities radiating through the statement contrary to some appointments that evoke ambivalence among observers, corroborating Dr. Smith's suitability for the position.
