As Thanksgiving approaches, Jefferson Parish is reminding residents of altered schedules and service interruptions in observance of the holiday. According to a recent announcement from the parish's official website, government offices, along with several other facilities and services, will be taking a break to mark the festive occasion.
Specifically, there will be no garbage collection tomorrow for those living in unincorporated Jefferson Parish, and the Town of Jean Lafitte. No make-up day is scheduled for the missed garbage collection, and normal service will not resume until Monday, December 2. Additionally, all four Parish drop-off sites and the Parish landfill will close on Thanksgiving Day but will reopen on Friday, November 29. Glass Half Full and Ramelli Group are also offering free recycling services to residents every Saturday, weather permitting.
Those looking to visit Jefferson Parish libraries or engage with certain parish recreational activities will also need to adjust their plans. The libraries will shut their doors early on the eve of Thanksgiving and will not welcome patrons back until the Saturday following the holiday. Moreover, the Jefferson Protection and Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) and Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation (JPRD) parks, excluding Lafreniere Park and Parc des Familles, will also be observing the Thanksgiving closure on both Thursday and Friday, with activities slated to return to their usual schedule on Saturday, November 30.
The parish has also announced that Jefferson Parish Transit will be operating on a Saturday schedule on Thanksgiving Day, with regular operations anticipated to resume on Friday, November 29. This shift in transit operation is crucial for those relying on public transportation during the holiday period. In a lighter vein of holiday spirit, Jefferson Parish invites residents to partake in the 38th annual Christmas in the Park celebration, commencing with a lighting ceremony on Sunday, December 1, at Lafreniere Park.
