Three individuals were apprehended yesterday after a reported auto burglary escalated into a brief pursuit in San Mateo. According to the San Mateo Police Department, a vehicle burglary was in progress on the 400 block of North Bayshore Boulevard, with the culprits attempting to filch tools from a utility work truck.
Despite their swift escape in a white Dodge Charger bearing paper plates, San Mateo officers were able to locate the vehicle half an hour later. Found near the intersection of Hillsdale Boulevard and South Norfolk Street, the car, upon detecting police presence, sped onto Highway 101 and then onto Highway 92, only to be halted near the Edgewater exit. Only then were the three suspects safely detained inside the vehicle. The Dodge Charger was reported stolen from Fremont.
Inside the stolen car laden with what is suspected to be stolen property, officers arrested Javier Macias, a 24-year-old Hayward resident, and Ernesto Torres, a 25-year-old Oakland resident, alongside a juvenile. Macias and Torres were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, second-degree burglary, and possession of a stolen vehicle, with an additional charge for Torres for parole violation. Both were booked into San Mateo County Jail, as detailed by the San Mateo Police Department.
