A significant disruption unfolded on the I-5 North this Monday morning. Northbound lanes were shut down south of the I-205 split following a vehicular collision. The closure was confirmed just before 9:30 a.m., as reported by KOIN, citing sources from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
Traffic delays are expected to affect many, with alternative routes being suggested by authorities. A notice pushed through KPTV’s First Alert Traffic service advised commuters to divert their journey, due to all northbound lanes being obstructed two miles south of the I-205 split. The crash, reportedly involving multiple vehicles, imposes an urgent plea for travelers to avoid the section and brace for potentially heavy delays.
Not long after the complete shutdown, a sliver of movement was restored. One lane reopened around 9:45 a.m., which was reported by KGW. Despite this, ODOT's TripCheck map offered little respite in the sea of red indicating stalled traffic. Motorists were still strongly encouraged to find detours.
While some progress has been made in re-opening I-5, the situation remains fluid. Response vehicles and tow trucks are still working to clear the accident scene, which has drawn the attention of passersby and contributed to congestion in the open lane. No immediate information has been released about the cause of the crash or any injuries.
