FOX 8 Live reports that a Honda Accord carrying a mother and her children was barraged with gunfire, causing it to crash near a local barbershop.
Tragically, Diellon Daniels, age 8, succumbed to the injuries sustained in the assault, as identified by the Baton Rouge Police Department, with further details available through BRProud. The two surviving victims, both youths, remain under medical care, one of which was awaiting surgery; their conditions, serious but stable, have not been officially updated since the incident; the ages of other children present in the vehicle during the shooting were not provided by the authorities; and a pregnant mother at the wheel during the onslaught managed to evade injury amidst the chaos that ensued around 2 p.m.
Police Chief TJ Morse described the shooting as "a targeted attack," expressing frustration and a call for community action. "I hope that people are as mad as I am," Morse said, highlighting the severity of the scene where "there's 20 or 30 shell casings in the street. This car was hit about that many times, but it's not worth it," according to a statement obtained by FOX 8 Live.
