Tragedy struck Columbus Square on Sunday when a shooting resulted in the death of two men and injuries to three others. The victims have been identified as Damon Lawson, 26, and Darrien Abrams, 20, both residents of East St. Louis, according to St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department official report.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. when police received a call indicating a shooting near 8th and Carr Streets. Upon arrival, officers found Lawson and Abrams with gunshot wounds. Lawson was pronounced dead at the scene, while Abrams was transported to the hospital where he was later declared deceased. The other victims, including two more men—one critically wounded—and a woman with a minor injury, were taken to the hospital. The woman, however, refused to immediately seek medical treatment despite her wound.
Detectives are now piecing together the events that led to this violent outburst, actively searching for any leads. The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain murky, and homicide detectives are reaching out to the public, asking for any information that could assist in their investigation.
