In a unified stance, Utah County Commissioners have thrown their weight behind Governor Spencer Cox's efforts to deport illegal immigrants who have committed crimes within the state. According to Utah County, Commissioners Brandon Gordon, Amelia Powers Gardner, and Skyler Beltran are backing both state and federal initiatives proposed by Governor Cox, and the incoming Trump Administration.
The commissioners' statement emphasized the role of the Sheriff’s Office and the justice system in, tackling illegal immigration, especially when it intersects with a crime. They pinpointed the negative impact of violent gang-related activity within Utah County, and the Fentanyl crisis, which has become a source of anguish for the community.
Welcoming legal immigration while drawing a firm line against any individuals who present a threat to public safety forms the cornerstone of the commission’s stand. "As Utah County Commissioners, we are unified in our support for Governor Spencer Cox’s targeted state effort to crack down and deport illegal immigrants who commit crimes in our state and for supporting President Trump’s efforts to engage the federal government in those efforts actively," as obtained by Utah County.
