A driver involved in a fatal road-rage incident in Utah County last year has entered a guilty plea, accepting responsibility for the crash that claimed the lives of two individuals. As per FOX13, Peterson Drew Matheson was driving a Ford F-150 when the exchange with a Nissan Maxima turned deadly, leading to the deaths of Rodney Salm and Michaela Himmleberger, the latter known as Mischa, after his truck collided head-on with their Porsche 911 on SR-73.
During the exchange with the Nissan, Matheson was reported to have driven on the shoulder to ram the side of the other vehicle ultimately leading him to lose control, the crash resulting in the immediate deaths of Salm and Himmelberger, as detailed by KSLTV. The aftermath saw families and the legal system grappling with the consequences, Peter Salm, Rodney's brother, conveyed a tempered response to the plea deal, "I’m fine with it. I’m not a vindictive person. I know this guy didn’t get out of bed in the morning and decide he’s going to go and kill two people. It doesn’t happen that way. But at the same time, I believe he’s accountable for his actions. And this judge has been, you know, very fair with the victims in this," he told KSLTV.
Ashley Matheson, Peterson Matheson's former wife, highlighted the secondary victims of the incident, their children, lamenting their loss of a present father, "It makes me sad they don’t have a dad present," she said, as per KUTV. The persisting trend of road rage incidents in Utah was also underscored by authorities alongside families urging for cooler heads on the road.
