
On Tuesday afternoon, a harrowing moment unfolded in Leighton Township when a train collided with a vehicle. Around 4:45 p.m., the incident led to an emergency response and temporary road closure. WOOD-TV reported that the collision occurred west of Division Avenue on 140th Avenue.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office reported that an eastbound vehicle catastrophically failed to stop at the railroad crossing. The resulting crash thankfully resulted in no injuries but did cause a substantial disruption. 140th Avenue was closed for several hours between Division Avenue and 12th Street while the scene was thoroughly investigated, with the closure lasting until about 7:45 p.m. According to FOX17, the train was headed north when it struck the vehicle.
Various emergency services coordinated efforts to manage the site. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office cited the help of dispatchers, Railroad Police, and Michigan State Police in managing the aftermath of the crash. Meanwhile, the investigation into the exact causes of the incident continues, as WWMT reported.
