In a disheartening incident out of California Borough, Washington County, a young child's life hangs in the balance following severe abuse. A 1-year-old boy is now on a ventilator, battling for life after sustaining a traumatic brain injury while under the care of a man identified as Lyndon Henderson. CBS Pittsburgh reported that the baby was initially found unresponsive by his mother upon her return from work.
The tragic incident began when the boy's mother, needing to work, left her child in Henderson's care. During a video call from work, her son seemed fine. However, as she later stated, as per WTAE, she came home to a nightmare, finding her son unresponsive. She quickly called 911, but the situation led to a grim outcome at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
According to WTAE, the gravity of the boy's condition was conveyed by the attending physician, who stated, "The brain injury sustained by the victim is one hundred percent unequivocally the result of child abuse." With bruisings over his body accompanying the brain injury, law enforcement was left with little doubt about the nature of the incident. Henderson, who was with the boy throughout the day, later claimed to investigators the injuries were accidental.
Henderson told authorities that the child’s severe injuries were caused by a fall from the couch after he spun the boy in circles. However, medical findings strongly disputed this claim, leading to charges against him, including aggravated assault. He is now in police custody, facing these serious allegations.
