The festive spirit in Chicago is receiving a boost from the established charitable efforts of 100 Black Men of Chicago, Inc., as they embark on their annual holiday toy drive. This year's event, marking a double milestone – the organization's 30th anniversary and the 26th iteration of the toy drive – drew notable attendees from various sectors, including city leaders, business figures, and local celebrities.
Hosting the toy drive on Saturday evening, the group successfully garnered over 1,500 toys, encompassing board games, action figures, and sought-after electronics. These gifts are destined for distribution to children across Chicago, bringing a slice of Christmas joy into their lives. Dr. David Day, the chairman of the board, emphasized the importance of the event's growth, telling FOX 32 Chicago, "We'll probably collect almost 1,500 toys tonight and we will also take some of the funds and buy additional toys if we're running a little low," Day said. "… We want to make sure that we spread this out and make sure that the young kids get to have a chance to have a great Christmas.."
The outreach doesn't simply stop with gifting, as the organization further extends its support by providing financial resources to single mothers during the holiday season. The impact of the initiative is magnified through collaborations with over 15 local homeless shelters and organizations, ensuring the benefits reach far and wide within the community. Alongside spreading holiday cheer, the event is a significant fundraising occasion, with tens of thousands of dollars raised to sustain the various programs and events that 100 Black Men of Chicago offer year-round.
Ryan Clark, chairman of the event, recently discussed the logistics and vision behind the toy drive during an interview with a local news outlet. He shed light on the collective goal to gather thousands of toys for those in need, stating, "It is a major event and we are looking to put smiles on many faces this holiday season." Firms such as Enterprise Rental Cars, McDonald's, and Blue Cross Blue Shield are among the corporate entities lending their support to ensure the toy drive resonates with the giving spirit that embodies the holiday season, as reported by Clark in a YouTube interview.
For anyone still looking to contribute to the toy drive or attend the event at the Hyatt Regency's Grand Ballroom, Ryan Clark provided straightforward instructions: "Go to our website, 100BMC.org. You can buy tickets at TicketFalcon.com. You can buy a ticket and you can also donate funds if you can't attend." This accessible approach ensures that the goodwill fostered by 100 Black Men of Chicago, Inc. continues to thrive and that the community remains a beneficiary of this longstanding tradition.
