In a somber reflection of Memphis's ongoing struggle with gun violence, an 11-year-old boy fell victim to a shooting in the Whitehaven neighborhood on Monday night. According to Action News 5, the Memphis Police Department reported to the incident after 9:15 p.m. on Lochinvar Road. The young boy was subsequently transported to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, thankfully in non-critical condition.
Adding detail to the troubling event, Local Memphis recounted that the shooting occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. in the 5500 block of Lochinvar Road. Listed in non-critical condition, the boy's injury was a relief to those arrived on the scene. The ongoing investigation hopes to shed light on this incident.
FOX13 Memphis underscored the severity of this pattern, reporting that more than 140 children were treated for gunshot wounds at Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital this year alone. Although this figure represents a decline from the previous year's 180 cases, it is still the second-highest number recorded by the hospital.
