Worcester Police announced the arrest of a 14-year-old boy in connection with a shooting on Mt. Vernon Street on December 23, details of which emerged in a department press release. According to the official Worcester Police Department release, officers were called to the scene following a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 6:20 PM, after which a 25-year-old male victim with gunshot wounds checked himself into a local hospital.
The investigation, spearheaded by Worcester PD detectives, led to the establishment of probable cause and subsequent apprehension of the juvenile suspect last Saturday. The teenager faces a slew of charges: Armed Assault to Murder, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon (firearm), Carrying a Firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling.
The quick response from the Worcester Police, supported by ShotSpotter technology, resolved the incident quickly. Following this, community leaders and law enforcement are being urged to look into the underlying issues that lead to such violence.
