
An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with open murder with a deadly weapon following a recent shooting in Las Vegas, authorities said. Steven Bernard, identified by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department as the suspect, was apprehended by the FBI-led Criminal Apprehension Team on Thursday, according to a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Criminal Apprehension Team includes officers from multiple jurisdictions, including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Major Violators Bureau, FBI, Henderson, and North Las Vegas Police Departments.
The incident, which left one person dead and another injured, occurred last Saturday. Police were called around 1:12 p.m. to a residence on D Street after reports of a shooting. Officers found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds, and both were transported to the hospital, where the male victim was later pronounced dead. As stated in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department release, during the investigation, it emerged that the victims were in a verbal and subsequent physical altercation when another male inside the residence, later identified as Bernard, allegedly fired shots, striking both.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the dead victim's identity and cause of death at a later time. Authorities are encouraging anyone with information on the case to come forward.
