
A tragic incident unfolded in Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood where a 3-year-old boy was hospitalized after sustaining a gunshot wound during an armed robbery, FOX 32 Chicago reports. The shooting occurred in the afternoon at approximately 4:50 p.m. in the 1000 block of West 14th Street.
According to police, a 20-year-old man was in a parking lot when an armed suspect approached him, demanding his property, and then fired shots into the air. One of the stray bullets, unfortunately, penetrated a nearby apartment, hitting the young boy in the left ear, FOX 32 Chicago adds.
NBC Chicago's coverage identifies that the 3-year-old was inside his residence when the shot struck him. The 20-year-old targeted by the robber was left uninjured, while no suspects have been taken into custody as the investigation continues.
Information about the suspect remains scarce, as detectives from Area Three are handling the ongoing investigation, police said.
