A man suspected of car theft led deputies on a chase that concluded with him stranded in a tree above a precipitous cliff in Olympia, Washington. According to FOX 13 Seattle, the series of events kicked off on Christmas Day with reports of a car theft and escalated from there.

The suspect had successfully evaded capture in a foot chase initially, but his run from the law came to an end after he crashed a reportedly stolen vehicle late Thursday. Thurston County Sheriff's Office deputies, armed with technology and canine assistance, were able to capture him after a chase on Interstate 5. The deputies later utilized a K9 and a drone to help locate and retrieve the suspect, who by then had climbed a tree over a 200-foot cliff. It was K9 Mac who, in a statement obtained by KIRO 7, managed to "convince" the suspect to safely climb down.

Adding to the narrative, The Olympian reported that the sheriff's office confirmed the captured individual to be the same one linked to the initial car theft on Christmas Day. His desperate attempt to avoid arrest ultimately led him to ascend 50 feet up a tree, leaving him in a precarious situation until he was persuaded to surrender to authorities.

The apprehension operation included Olympia Police, Thurston County Sheriff's Office deputies, and Lacey Police. The coordination of these forces, alongside the canine unit and infrared drone technology, resulted in the successful capture of the suspect without further incident. As a result of the pursuit and prior offenses, the suspect now faces charges for auto theft and eluding law enforcement, according to FOX 13 Seattle.
