A violent incident shook the quiet of Walnut Park West earlier today, as two residents experienced a home invasion. St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department reported that the crime occurred at roughly 1 a.m. in the 5900 block of Sherry. The victims, two men aged 56 and 44, were confronted inside their home by a pair of armed individuals.
According to the victims, one of the suspects was a young acquaintance. The intruders, wielding handguns, forced the homeowners at gunpoint to endure a ransacking of their residence. Among the stolen items were a wallet, an undisclosed amount of cash, and a bank card. Subsequently, one assailant exploited the bank card at a neighboring gas station to withdraw money. After the financial theft, the assailant, evidently emboldened by greed or malice, made their way back to the house and physically assaulted the 44-year-old man. Both suspects made their escape before law enforcement could arrive on the scene.
The 44-year-old victim turned down medical attention despite the altercation. No arrests have been made yet but police are actively investigating the home invasion as the community grapples with the aftershock of this violent crime.
