
A late-night incident in Atlanta's Sweet Auburn neighborhood has left a suspected drunk driver hospitalized after a car crash escalated into violence. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the series of events unfolded on William Holmes Borders Senior Drive shortly before 12:30 a.m., when a driver allegedly under the influence lost control, struck multiple parked cars, and ended up flipping his vehicle.
Witnesses to the crash reportedly engaged in a physical altercation with the driver and a passenger. Amidst the reported fray, someone in the group fired a shot that struck the driver in the thigh, before the group fled the scene, as described by police. Before medics arrived, running off, the shooter and others in the group had already disappeared.
The injured driver was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital and is expected to make a recovery. At this time, detectives are still piecing together the sequence of events, and no suspects have been taken into custody in relation to the shooting. The Atlanta Police Department asks that anyone with information that may aid the investigation to come forward.
