Particularly notable was the representation from the Southern District of Florida, which saw multiple deputies honored for their service.
The Attorney General's Award spots the spotlight on state, local, and Tribal officers, deputies, and troopers who've significantly engaged with their communities across three categories: criminal investigations, field operations, and innovations in community policing.
"Today, we stand in the presence of extraordinary individuals who exemplify the very best of what it means to protect and serve," Principal Deputy Associate Attorney General Benjamin C. Mizer was quoted in a press release. He noted the deeply rooted impact these officers have in the communities they patrol, positioning them as pillars of trust, empathy, and unity. Among those awarded were Detective Matthew Newbold of the Polk County Sheriff's Office in Florida for criminal investigations and Lance Corporal Justin Boyd of the Columbia, South Carolina, Police Department in field operations.
Innovations in community policing were also spotlighted, with a group from the Palm Beach County, Florida, Sheriff's Office, including Corporal Adrian Maldonado and Deputies James Mackey and Jason Coker, among others, being recognized. From New York to Utah to Virginia, officers have been selected from a national pool of nominees, recognizing their outstanding achievements in creating safer and more inclusive communities.
