Baltimore has been confronted with a chilling case of domestic violence as 25-year-old Ajay Wiggins is charged with the murder of his mother, Joyce Gaskins, according to the Baltimore Police Department's recent disclosure. The dreadful incident, which unfolded in their home on Druid Hill Avenue in the Western District, has left the community grappling with yet another tragic example of violence within a family unit.
The police were summoned to the residence back on November 15, finding Gaskins, 64, unresponsive. The subsequent medical declaration pronounced her dead at the scene, and following an autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner's office, her death was ruled a homicide by asphyxiation on December 5.
Wiggins was taken into custody last Monday and is currently held at the Central Booking Intake Facility, the Baltimore Police Department reported, where he was formally slammed with a first-degree murder charge. The investigation is ongoing as homicide detectives work to piece together the events leading up to Gaskins' tragic death.
