The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) is actively investigating a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred late Sunday night in Cooper City, where a woman on a bicycle was struck and killed by a driver who fled the scene. According to NBC Miami, the incident took place around 11:40 p.m. in the 9500 block of Sheridan Street. Wendy Carpenter, the victim, was bicycling westward when hit by a 2020 Acura TLX.
Officials have identified the victim as Wendy Carpenter. As she was riding her bicycle on the outside edge of the roadway, Brian Cooper, driving the said Acura, approached from behind and collided with Carpenter, who was consequently thrown from her bicycle. After being transported to Memorial Regional Hospital by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, she was pronounced dead, with the timeline of events reported by Boca Post confirming that Carpenter was declared deceased at 12:13 a.m. yesterday.
The aftermath of the collision saw a “bystander who witnessed the accident tracked Cooper to the 10000 block of Cherry Avenue in Pembroke Pines area,” as stated by Boca Post.
