On Wednesday night, Boston police apprehended a 17-year-old in connection with the unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm in the Mattapan neighborhood, detailed in information released by the Boston Police Department. The arrest was the culmination of an encounter that began around 9:40 PM, when officers from District B-3 noticed two individuals avoiding police interaction on Stratton Street.
Officers initially approached the pair for a threshold inquiry and allowed them to leave. However, surveillance footage later revealed one suspect hiding an item behind a vehicle upon spotting the marked cruiser. This prompted further investigation, leading detectives to discover a Springfield Armory firearm with 18 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber under a nearby vehicle. Authorities quickly traced the weapon back to the two suspects, who were found at 185 Harvard Street.
According to a statement by the Boston Police Department, the teenager now faces multiple charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as carrying a loaded firearm in public. His arraignment is set to take place at the Dorchester District Court.
