The annual tradition of holiday ship lighting at Martin’s Park in Boston's Seaport District has once again brought local law enforcement together with the community they serve, this time to ring in the holiday season with a sparkle. Officers from the District C-6 Community Service Office and the BPD Harbor Patrol Unit joined forces in a gesture that illuminated more than just the waterfront evening. According to the Boston Police Department's news release, personnel donned festive costumes, with one taking on Santa’s jolly mantle while another embraced the mischievous guise of The Grinch.
In what is becoming a noted yuletide spectacle, officers were ferried to the Children’s Museum dock by the Harbor Patrol Unit, where they were met by a throng of energetic children and their families. The evening was about community and celebration, filled with smiles and the kind of enchantment that thrives in such communal festivities. The event was not just an opportunity for fun, but also a chance to pay respects at a park dedicated to honoring the memory of Martin Richard, the 8-year-old whose life was taken too soon.
During the event, the crowd joined Boston Mayor Wu and other officials aboard the ship for the ceremonial lighting.
