Community members who've been personally touched by the tragedy of drunk and impaired driving will be marking the occasion with a candlelight vigil tomorrow in Boynton Beach. The Boynton Beach Police Department, in collaboration with Palm Beach County’s Department of Public Safety Victim Services Division, is set to observe the 4th annual DUI Victim Remembrance Memorial, an event designed to honor survivors and remember those lost to the perils of impaired driving, according to city's official website.
In the previous year, more than 2,300 drivers were arrested across Palm Beach County for DUI offenses, leading to over a thousand crashes, considerable injuries, and dozens of fatalities. According to stats provided by the Boynton Beach Police Department, the community has faced 1,087 crashes, resulting in 77 serious injuries and 37 tragic deaths in 2023 alone. Ahead of the evening’s solemn remembrance, a blood drive is scheduled to take place at Centennial Park & Amphitheater from 3 to 6 p.m.
"Driving while under the influence is a crime that has destroyed far too many families,” Boynton Beach Police Chief Joseph DeGiulio told the city's website.
