After an extensive multi-year investigation, the Plymouth Police Detective Division has successfully captured Werlen Luiz, a 48-year-old Brazilian national, who was wanted for multiple sexual offenses. According to the Plymouth Police Department's social media post, Luiz was apprehended in Statesville, North Carolina by U.S. Marshals on November 15, quelling the notion that he might have fled to Brazil after a warrant was issued for his arrest in 2021.
The arrest was made possible through the relentless efforts of Plymouth Police Detective Robert Shaw, who received a tip in July indicating that Luiz was still in the United States. This led to a series of search warrants ultimately pinpointing Luiz's exact location. It's been documented that Luiz was booked at Plymouth Police Headquarters on multiple charges, including seven counts of rape of a child with a ten-year age difference, one count of assault & battery, and one count of strangulation or suffocation, as detailed by the Plymouth Police Department.
In a show of appreciation, a statement from the Plymouth Police Department highlighted the role played by the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office in Luiz's capture. They expressed their gratitude towards Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz and his office for their unwavering support during what has been a painstaking journey towards justice for the Plymouth community.
