Buckeye, known for its deep appreciation of military service, is presently celebrating its own with a distinct local flair – the Hometown Heroes Banner Program. This initiative honors those among its community who've donned the uniform and served, whether in past conflict or current duty. As reported by the City of Buckeye's official news release, residents and visitors will see banners draped along the downtown hub of Monroe Avenue, turning the street into a gallery of valor from May 1 to July 31 every year.

The visual tribute requires deep community involvement. To qualify for a banner in this corridor of remembrance, nominees must be active members of the U.S. Armed Forces or honorably discharged veterans. They must also have a present or past connection to Buckeye or family ties to the town. Each submission represents a story, a sacrifice, and a bond with Buckeye.
The banners are refreshed and proudly presented annually. They contribute to a sense of continuity, respect, and a public reckoning with the servicemen and women’s contributions to the nation. According to the city’s announcement, these banners act as a lasting honor, maintaining the memory of service and fostering an enduring connection between the heroes and the community that cheered them on.
For those in Buckeye wishing to honor a family member or friend in this unique way, now is the time. The submission window for the 2025 display is open, with a deadline of March 1, 2025. For more details or to begin the process, visit the city's dedicated webpage for the program.
