In a notable shift of venues, Caltrain is packing up its operations to set up shop in Millbrae. As per Caltrain, the transit authority revealed they will soon share a new headquarters with the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) at the Gateway at Millbrae Station.
Caltrain's decision comes as no surprise as the SamTrans board made their move public back in March. The relocation strategy is aimed at convening Caltrain's workforce and fostering a sustainable commute. “Our new headquarters will provide the modern facilities and convenient location our team needs, with seamless access to the Millbrae Transit Station and the entire Caltrain corridor," Caltrain Executive Director Michelle Bouchard said, as cited by Caltrain. Notions of modernity and practicality are at the heart of this transition to Millbrae.
SamTrans procured the building in a lease-to-purchase agreement for $126 million last December and will now host Caltrain on the 4th floor. Caltrain has agreed to a 10-year lease term, which can be extended for two additional five-year periods.
