The City Council of Carlsbad has announced Geoff Patnoe, previously holding the position of Assistant City Manager, as the city's new City Manager, effective December 19. This appointment follows the recent news of Scott Chadwick departing from his City Manager post to tackle new challenges as President and CEO of the Port of San Diego. Having joined the city's executive team in March 2020, Patnoe was instrumental in steering Carlsbad through the pandemic crisis. According to a press release by the City of Carlsbad, his leadership notably contributed to reducing e-bike-related injuries by 18% following a spike in bike collisions.
Mayor Keith Blackburn praised Patnoe's strategic acumen and leadership, emphasizing that his appointment offers a smooth continuity for the administration. "We’ve seen Geoff in action and have been impressed by his strategic thinking and leadership,” said Blackburn, as per the City of Carlsbad. Before his tenure in Carlsbad, Geoff Patnoe spent over a decade at the County of San Diego, diving into strategic and intergovernmental affairs on behalf of the county.
Geoff Patnoe, a UC Davis alum with a political science and public service degree, brings over two decades of local government experience to the City Manager role. His career includes stints as Chief of Staff to a San Diego County Board of Supervisors member and the Director of the Office of Strategy and Intergovernmental Affairs for the County of San Diego. "I am deeply honored to be entrusted with the role of City Manager and to continue to serve this incredible community,” Patnoe expressed, as cited by the City of Carlsbad.
