A duo accused of a home burglary in Carlsbad, while the homeowner was out of town, has been arrested following a multi-agency investigation. The Carlsbad Police Department reported on social media that the suspects were apprehended after committing a string of burglaries.
According to the post, the ordeal began on November 15, when the homeowner received an alarming notification from his security cameras displaying two individuals decked out in his backyard in hoodies, gloves, and bandanas. This pair later managed to forcefully gain entry by breaking through a second-story door. Among the loot were luxury handbags, $10,000 in cash, and sensitive documents from an unsecured safe, including passports and Social Security cards. The Carlsbad Police Department's Property Crimes Investigation Unit quickly identified a vehicle linked to the crime.
The breakthrough in the case came on December 12, when detectives from the Carlsbad Police working with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office spotted a car connected to an earlier burglary in San Marcos. In a twist of events, when detectives attempted to halt the vehicle, the suspects led them on a brief chase before crashing and abandoning the car. The aftermath saw officers, with the assistance of a K-9 unit, successfully capturing two suspects who were subsequently jailed by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Further investigative work led detectives to execute a search warrant at a Los Angeles residence. There, they recovered an array of stolen items, including designer purses, cash, jewelry, and assorted electronics. Additionally, a handgun reported stolen earlier in the year was also found. Authorities are now working diligently to connect the confiscated items to potential victims and are collaborating with law enforcement agencies throughout California.
