Carlsbad Police successfully secured an arrest after drawn-out negotiations near a local hotel. The suspect, who was wanted on two active felony warrants and was already on probation, was spotted by Officer McKiernan during extra patrols in the area. The vehicle linked to the individual had a known history relating to past narcotics and illegal firearms cases, according to a social media post by the City of Carlsbad Police Department.
Understanding that a felony warrant grants law enforcement the legal right to locate and arrest individuals suspected of serious crimes, officers put in motion a strategy to ensure a safe apprehension. Due to the suspect’s history with unregistered firearms, Officer McKiernan skillfully navigated the scenario to encourage the suspect to exit his room voluntarily.
The meticulous two-hour negotiation, prioritizing public and officer safety, concluded when the suspect stepped out of the room without incident and was safely taken into custody.
