A Casa Grande man, identified as Eleazar Alfredo Gomez and a member of the Gila River Indian Community, has been sentenced to federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. United States District Judge Douglas L. Rayes handed down the 58-month sentence, which will be followed by three years of supervised release. The announcement was made last week by the U.S. Attorney's Office, detailing Gomez's guilty plea entered on September 10, for the charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
This latest conviction marks a return to prison for Gomez, who had previously served time for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and for being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm in case number CR-18-01086-PHX-DLR. The investigation that led to Gomez's most recent sentence was conducted by the Phoenix Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Raynette Logan overseeing the prosecution process. According to court documents, on July 23, Gomez was found in possession of a firearm, violating the terms of his prior conviction.
Gomez's history of run-ins with the law compounded his legal troubles, as he was sentenced to 46 months for the firearm possession in the current case, plus an additional 12 months for violating his supervised release from the 2018 case.
The Phoenix Police Department led the investigation in this case, while the prosecution was managed by Raynette Logan, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, Phoenix.
