Chicago anticipates a spell of rainy weather over the coming days. According to reports from the National Weather Service, rain is expected to begin today, mainly after 11 a.m., accompanied by patchy fog in the afternoon. The high temperature is predicted to be near 48 degrees, with an east-southeast wind blowing 10 to 15 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph. The chance of precipitation is pegged at 90%, with new precipitation amounts of a tenth to a quarter of an inch possible.
The rainy conditions are set to persist into the evening, with rain likely before midnight, and foggy patches anticipated before the night clears. Temperatures are expected to hover around 46 degrees, while the southeast winds will shift southwest, possibly gusting up to 25 mph. "Rain chances increase to 100% for Friday, especially after 9 a.m.," CBS Chicago reports, forecasting rain to continue through the early evening hours, with rainfall amounts of up to a half inch possible.
Saturday should offer a brief respite, with mostly cloudy conditions and a high near 52 degrees, though the winds will remain active with gusts as high as 25 mph. However, the break will be short-lived, as the chance of rain returns late Saturday night, and Sunday is expected to bring a 50 percent chance of rain with cloudy skies, and a temperature peaking around 45 degrees.
Turning towards the new week, Monday is forecasted to feature partly sunny skies, with the temperature rising slightly to a high of 46 degrees. Tuesday will likely bring more rain, mainly before noon, with an overcast sky, and a high projected to be near 42 degrees. As night falls on Tuesday, however, temperatures are expected to plummet to the 20s, in a brisk introduction to the new year.
For those making plans to welcome 2025, New Year's Day in Chicago is predicted to be partly sunny, with temperatures around the freezing mark, and highs anticipated to be near 33 degrees. The chill is slated to persist into the first week of January, as the city transitions into 2025 beneath mostly cloudy skies, and with temperatures that underscore the depth of winter in the Windy City.
