Chicago citizens are on high alert as armed robberies continue to plague the city's west neighborhoods. According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department (CPD), multiple incidents involving armed suspects have been reported in West Elsdon, West Loop, and the Near West Side. The CPD has released information concerning the recent string of crimes in hopes of garnering public assistance in apprehending the culprits.

The first of these incidents occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, when two male suspects wearing ski masks, and armed with a handgun emerged from a black vehicle and threatened a person sleeping in their car on the 4300 block of West 54th St. "Give me everything you got," they demanded, before hijacking the vehicle. In a continuation of their crime spree, the suspects headed to the 12th District, where they then confronted pedestrians with demands of "run them pockets," taking wallets, and cellphones and demanding PIN codes. Following these confrontations, the offenders fled the scene in the stolen sedan.

Each incident took place within a short period on December 10, starting at around 5:15 A.M. on the 4300 block of West 54th St., followed by a robbery at 6:30 A.M. on the 1000 block of West Madison St., and concluding with another at 6:55 A.M. on the 1900 block of West 13th St. The CPD has urged the public to be observant and cautious, while also advising against resisting or pursuing assailants for their safety.

The CPD has encouraged anyone who might have information about the suspects or witnessed the robberies to come forward, emphasizing the importance of noting distinguishing features such as scars, limps, acne, teeth, and other unique characteristics. Anyone with information is urged to dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible, and to avoid touching anything that could compromise potential evidence until police arrive.
