The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert regarding a series of vehicular hijackings that occurred yesterday in the Englewood and Bridgeport neighborhoods, according to their official website. Authorities are on the lookout for two to three suspects involved in the violent crimes, who were reportedly armed with knives at the time of the offenses.

The incidents, which unfolded over the day, began in the 6700 block of South Throop Street and continued across four other locations. The offenders' brazen tactics involved approaching the victims with a knife, including a USPS mail carrier from who a mailbag and personal belongings were taken. Not only vehicles but also personal property fell into the hands of the assailants during the hijackings.

Police described the perpetrators as including an African-American male donning a hooded sweatshirt and ski mask, and an unknown driver. One Hijacking featured a female African-American offender as well, collaborating with the male in the hooded sweatshirt and an additional third unknown accomplice.

In response to the string of carjackings, authorities are advising community members to maintain awareness of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity. Citizens faced by an assailant should stay calm and make an effort to note any distinguishing features of the individual, such as scars or limps. Angered by the loss, one of the victims followed the assailant—a move police strongly advise against, urging instead to relay information to law enforcement and avoid confrontations. In case of such an event, victims should contact 9-1-1 immediately and try to remain at the scene if possible.
