An incident of a carjacking in Algiers that involved a child taken with the stolen vehicle ended with the child's safe recovery, the New Orleans Police Department reported. The event occurred on the 1300 block of Michael Street around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, according to WWLTV. A woman was in her parked vehicle with her child when a man, armed with a firearm, knocked on her window and demanded money.
The assailant then ordered the woman out of her car and took off with the vehicle, the child still seated in the back. The NOPD later found the car with the child unharmed. FOX 8 Live did not specify how far the car was driven, nor the duration of time the child was in the stolen vehicle before the recovery was made.
As the investigation continues, details about the suspect have not been disclosed. The NOPD has issued statements, but specific information about the perpetrator remains unreleased. WDSU confirms that the vehicle was parked in front of the woman's home when the armed man confronted her and carried out the carjacking.
The authorities encourage witnesses or individuals with knowledge about the crime to reach out and help bring the suspect to justice. The health and safety of the child have been a paramount concern, with officials relieved at the non-violent resolution of the child's ordeal.
