Michael Miske, a convicted crime boss, was found dead last Sunday at the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu. Staff discovered him unresponsive in the morning, and despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead by Emergency Medical Services. The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, according to a report by Island News.
Miske, 50, was convicted in July on charges including racketeering and murder in connection with the disappearance of Johnathan Fraser. He was set to be sentenced in January 2025, likely to receive a life sentence. Legal analyst Doug Chin said, "It did require a life sentence," because of the seriousness of Miske's crimes. The cause of Miske's death is not yet known, and it’s unclear how it will affect the $20 million in assets tied to his case or the sentencing of his co-defendants, as reported by KHON2.
Michael Miske's death has raised questions about his legal case, including for his daughter-in-law, Delia Fabro-Miske, who had agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. Doug Chin said, "I’m sure the prosecution is going to be trying very hard to make sure that the fact that the jury found Mr. Miske guilty. Means that they can be able to still go forward and seize the assets." Authorities like the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Marshals Service were not initially informed but are now investigating, as stated by KHON2.
