Last night, a family was left injured after a hit-and-run collision in Cotati. The Cotati Police Department reported responding to a distressing traffic accident at the intersection of Highway 116 and the northbound Highway 101 off-ramp, where a car had overturned.

Upon arrival, the authorities discovered a different vehicle with front-end damage a short distance from the initial collision site. Nearby this second vehicle, officers found a male suspect who had abandoned the crash scene.

The suspect was detained, and following an in-depth investigation, he was arrested on charges of felony DUI, with his blood alcohol content testing at 3 1/2 times the limit, and felony hit-and-run after he was determined to have knowingly and willfully fled the accident scene despite injuries incurred to others involved. The family, who had become trapped inside their overturned car, were successfully extracted and promptly given medical attention at a hospital, according to the Cotati Police Department's social media post.
