A man from Cuthbert has been taken into custody related to a fatal shooting in Stewart County, as reported by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Tyrone Smith Jr., 26, faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder in the death of 23-year-old Delquan Harris, also hailing from Cuthbert.
The GBI was called upon to assist in the investigation last Sunday morning after the Lumpkin Police Department responded to a call at a residence on Matilda Street. According to FOX5 Atlanta, Smith, who was discovered in possession of a handgun, was arrested at the scene, and witnesses claimed to have seen him shoot Harris during the incident.
Harris was rushed to a hospital in Columbus, where he was later pronounced dead. The case has stirred an active inquiry, with the GBI spearheading further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. WALB notes that the Lumpkin Police Department had originally requested the GBI's expertise to conduct the death investigation.
