A man from Cuthbert, GA is facing charges following an incident that led to the death of another local resident. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that 26-year-old Tyrone Smith Jr. has been charged with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder in connection with the death of 23-year-old Delquan Harris, both of Cuthbert.
The incident occurred early Sunday at around 3:20 a.m. when Lumpkin police officers found Harris with multiple gunshot wounds after responding to a call at a Matilda Street residence. Harris was taken to a hospital in Columbus, Georgia, where he later died from his injuries. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation took over the case at the request of the local police department.
Smith, found at the scene with a handgun, was arrested after witnesses informed law enforcement of his alleged involvement in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement encourages anyone with information to contact the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Americus or the Lumpkin Police Department.
