At approximately 4:28 p.m., Coffee was captured on camera handling a crutch above his head, later using it to jab at the line of officers, escalating into a physical confrontation.

The prosecution is a joint effort between the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section, while the FBI's Dallas Field Office spearheaded the investigation with assistance from the FBI's Washington Field Office, the U.S. Capitol Police and the MPD, since the breach, over 1,572 individuals have faced charges and the probe into the event is still active with the FBI encouraging anyone with information to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips through their website.

Coffee’s sentencing is set for April 24 next year, following the events of January 6, which sparked a wide-reaching investigation across the country. Over 590 individuals have been charged with felonies related to law enforcement. Law enforcement has emphasized that accountability will be pursued, regardless of the time elapsed.
