A Daly City standoff, which extended over 27 grueling hours, concluded on Sunday night when a 45-year-old woman was taken into custody by SWAT officers, ending her barricade inside her home on the 300 block of 88th Street. The incident began last Saturday evening when Daly City Police responded to a call of a domestic disturbance, a situation that escalated quickly as the woman confronted officers with a kitchen knife.
According to CBS News San Francisco, the confrontational episode commenced around 6:44 p.m. Upon arrival, the officers encountered the woman, who allegedly charged at them with the weapon in hand, prompting a swift retreat and establishment of a perimeter to contain the situation. The woman, who had initially been alone in her residence, refused to surrender for the standoff.
Throughout the ordeal, crisis negotiators were constantly engaged, but they were unable to convince the woman to end her barricade peacefully. In details furnished by The San Mateo Daily Journal, the police strategy favored negotiation and patience over force, an approach intended to de-escalate the situation.
The stalemate ultimately concluded at 10:38 p.m. Sunday with the suspect's arrest. Daly City Police Sgt. Matthew Ciucci confirmed that the SWAT team had successfully taken the woman into custody. "She will be booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and other crimes," said Sgt. Ciucci, as per The San Mateo Daily Journal.
