In the official announcement, Miami Beach City Manager Eric T. Carpenter, detailed Gomez's journey: “David Gomez has a proven track record of overseeing complex capital improvement projects from concept to completion,” and with reference to his prior contributions, . “With 30 years of experience in architecture, construction management and capital improvement projects, David will be responsible for overseeing large-scale public and private sector construction projects involving the City of Miami Beach.” Gomez's industry tenure includes strategic positions leading up to this point – from senior capital project coordinator to interim director, and as a CIP division director since 2018 for the city.

Before his municipal engagement, began in 2015, Gomez sculpted a solid reputation in private-sector project management. He has a string of accolades from his time at Recreational Design and Construction and as a project architect at both PBS & J and Zyscovich, Inc. Among the feathers in his cap, as provided by Miami Beach's official statement, are developments at Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, not to mention his status as a LEED Accredited Professional through the U.S. Green Building Council.

"I am honored to be entrusted with the leadership of such a talented group of professionals, and look forward to working with the community, the administration and the elected officials to further improve our great city," Gomez articulated. His past work includes notable Miami Beach enhancements like North Beach Oceanside Park, the Beachwalk, Collins Park Garage, and Pride Park. His academic backdrop – a bachelor’s degree in architecture and history from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, supplements his professional finesse, equipping him with both the academic and the practical knowledge for his new endeavor, according to the same press release.
