Tragedy has struck DeKalb County with two hit-and-run incidents resulting in fatalities. Police are vigorously searching for the drivers responsible for the separate crashes. In the first incident, a 32-year-old man lost his life last Saturday around 6 p.m., reported FOX 5 Atlanta. The incident occurred near the QuikTrip on the 3900 block of Flat Shoals Parkway. Officials discovered the victim dead on the roadway, and it was quickly established that he was trying to cross the street when struck by a vehicle. The identity of the man has not been released, nor have details about the vehicle involved.
A similarly grim scenario played out last Thursday morning, according to WSB-TV. A 29-year-old woman was hit and killed by a driver in a pickup truck at a busy intersection on Columbia Drive around 6:40 a.m. Witnesses to the aftermath were confronted with a heartbreaking scene, with witness Samantha Prater recounting the sight of the body in the street and her subsequent call to 911.
Adding to the horror of the second incident, the struck woman was also run over by a DeKalb County School Bus, unable to stop in time; the bus driver stayed on the scene and is not facing charges, with no students aboard when the accident occurred. "I just remember seeing that Tundra with the reverse lights on," Prater told WSB-TV, identifying the potential vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. The DeKalb County Police Department urges anyone with information on either incident to come forward and help bring closure to these devastating events.
