A startling occurrence unfolded in Delhi Township when a man, later identified as Christian Austin, was accused of kidnapping a 16-year-old teen at gunpoint. As reported by WLWT, the teen was out for an evening stroll when he was allegedly assaulted and forced into Austin's vehicle. The encounter culminated with the youth being released in Cincinnati, after which Austin, 37, was apprehended by the authorities.
Details emerged, noting that the incident occurred on Betty Lane around 7:30 p.m. yesterday, as per FOX19 NOW. It's alleged that Austin, having suspected the teen of potential car break-ins that recently plagued the neighborhood, took matters into his own hands. This misguided act of vigilante justice led to a confrontation, resulting in Austin allegedly pointing a gun at the victim and forcing him into his truck.
In an affidavit obtained by WCPO, Austin tells the teen, "I don't wanna do it, but I got to do it." This tense episode escalated when Austin purportedly racked the firearm in a display of intimidation. However, the youth managed to escape the harrowing situation at a United Dairy Farmers location in Cincinnati, where Austin again threatened the boy before the eventual arrest.
The Delhi Township Police Chief issued a statement reassuring the community that this was an isolated incident and Austin's swift arrest has mitigated any broader danger. Meanwhile, Austin's bond was set at $75,000, which includes the possibility of posting 10 percent to secure release. Despite this, it was later reported that the bond was modified to $76,000. Evidenced by a history of legal troubles, including a probation violation connected to a 2021 OVI conviction, Austin was flagged for illegally possessing a firearm due to a prior felony.
Austin, who showed compliance during his arrest, is familiar with the judicial proceedings and has had past encounters with the law. His court date is December 23, when a grand jury is expected to deliberate on his fate. Throughout this ordeal, authorities have reiterated that the teenager was unharmed and emphasized that he was not engaged in criminal activity at the time of the alleged kidnapping.
