Doral Celebrates Diversity with Unveiling of "Migrante Monument" at Legacy ParkSource: City of Doral

The City of Doral recently unveiled the "Migrante Monument" at Doral Legacy Park to celebrate art, culture, and heritage. Created by Venezuelan artist Nelson Gonzalez, who has been based in Aruba since 2003, the bronze monument honors the experiences and achievements of migrants. Revealed on last Friday, it aims to become a symbol of hope and unity for the diverse Doral community, as per the City of Doral website.

The unveiling was attended by Mayor Christi Fraga, Councilwomen Maureen Porras and Nicole Reinoso, along with representatives from Councilman Rafael Pineyro and Councilwoman Digna Cabral's offices, and the artist, Nelson Gonzalez. Mayor Fraga expressed pride in the city's commitment to arts and culture, stating in a City of Doral release, "A symbol of hope and unity, this artwork reflects the diverse tapestry of our community and captures the essence of Doral –a place where people from all walks of life come together to build a better future."

The project began with an open Call for Art in 2022 as part of the city's Public Arts Program to enhance Doral's culture and aesthetics. The "Migrante Monument" highlights the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit that have shaped the city. Nelson Gonzalez told the City of Doral, "The Migrante Monument is a bronze testament to the strength and determination of those who have forged this vibrant, multicultural city," adding that it is the first monument dedicated to migration in Florida, reflecting the city's growth since its incorporation 20 years ago.
